Ethel Oakes Memorial Garden
A long, narrow pathway that lies between St. Malachy School gymnasium and the school proper is named “Ethel’s Garden” in memory of Ethel Oakes.
Ethel Oakes, a St. Malachy parishioner, died on November 26, 2000. A large portion of her estate was willed to the Henry J. Smith Charitable Trust for St. Malachy School. In 2005, Henry J. Smith trustees voted to donate a portion of Ethel’s gift to the school’s “Opening New Doors” capital building fund that was introduced in 2003 and completed in 2007.
The Henry J. Smith Charitable Trust has several initiatives designed to ensure that the generosity of our donors directly benefits the students of St. Malachy School.
From capital projects to student tuition assistance, we work hard to maximize the tremendous support our contributors continually provide to the Trust.
