The Henry J. Smith Charitable Trust was created exclusively for the support of educational programs including religious, scientific, literary, and computer, along with capital improvements and teachers’ salaries.
Henry J. Smith
Mr. Smith’s involvement as a St. Malachy donor began in 1985 when he was a contributor to a capital campaign. Without his own formal education, he felt strongly about the strength of a formative education at St. Malachy School.
St. Malachy School
On September 8, 1914, the doors opened for Catholic education in Rantoul. The school was originally known as Donovan Memorial School, and was staffed by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield who continue to serve to this day.
Father Malinowski
Father Malinowski was a visionary who valued the service of Catholic Christian education. He recognized that in order to continue this service, space must be available in the St. Malachy facility to better serve the needs of students.
